THE BACKGROUND

A company that specialized in helping schools and youth group organizations with their fundraising efforts was looking for an additional product to sell.

We were approached to find a viable product that would complement their existing offering--without negatively impacting their current program.

THE PROBLEM

For many years, the company was sought after to sell a coupon book produced by another company. Each year, they were given a coupon book to try for themselves. But each year, after flipping through the book and seeing several good deals that excited them--they would put the book in a drawer where it was completely forgotten about the rest of the year.

 

While they loved the idea of coupons and saving money, they just could not bring themselves to sell a product that they felt would never be used.

THE SOLUTION

We envisioned and developed a coupon app that would deliver the same savings to the same desired merchants. However, we utilized technology to ensure the coupons would actually be redeemed. The app we created included:
 

  1. Geo Alerts – to remind users when they are at a location where they have unused coupons
     

  2. Expiration Alerts – to remind users about coupons that will be expiring soon
     

  3. Freemium Model – to encourage users to upgrade to access premium coupons by either: (1) donating to a fundraiser/charity, or (2) inviting their contacts or social networks to join
     

  4. New Coupon Alerts - to notify users about new merchants and/or coupons in their area
     

  5. Feed the Hungry - to provide a meal to the needy with every coupon that is redeemed
     

An entire backend Merchant Portal was also created to enable merchants to manage their coupons and locations--and to view detailed metrics and reports. 

THE RESULT

This coupon app has received rave reviews from consumers. After testing the app in Northern California, the app is now being rolled out nationwide. Once fully implemented, the company expects this product to provide potential revenues in excess of $20 million per year.
